This Way To Fun...

Like many families, we don't have grandparents living close, so when they do come to visit, it is very EXCITING news! We found out that my parents were coming over from NZ for a trip in the next couple of weeks and it prompted a flurry of arts and crafts at my place at the weekend.
The kids know they get somewhat spoiled when my parents visit but luckily they also really appreciate what they receive. I was delighted when Josh said 'I want to give nana and grandad some things because they always give us so much'. Well that was all a mum needs to hear to begin getting out all the supplies so we could design and create some masterpieces to give them on arrival!

We set out our art supplies on the outside table and set to work - the most successful of our creations were the simple glitter pictures that we each made (yes, I did one too - releasing my inner-artist is always a good thing!). For anyone with young kids, it works a treat - all you need is to draw your picture on paper with a glue stick - then gather together as many glitter colours as you can and sprinkle them as you wish to make a gorgeous, bright picture - sure to delight any nana or grandad out there. You can glue on extras such as feathers or ribbons to make it even more elaborate.. as you know with kids art, there really aren't any rules. If only we could live our own lives in the same way - fearless and without so many imposed rules and regulations... is it really too much to ask?!
As well as all the beautiful art we created, we also had a great time out in the sunshine, totally absorbed by our creative pursuits. We had a picnic on the grass in our hand-made Teepee... complete with a mini-verion we created for our cat Soxy. All in all, a great Sunday was had by all.
And I'm pleased to report - the TV and computer did not get looked at for the entire day!
What could you make with the kids today to show your love to the grandparents or other special people in their life?
